nokia

Nokia Corporation is a Finnish multinational communications corporation that is headquartered in Keilaniemi, Espoo, a city neighbouring Finland's capital Helsinki.Nokia is engaged in the manufacturing of mobile devices and in converging Internet and communications industries. From 1999 through 2010 all of my everyday mobile phones were Nokia phones. But in 2010 I finally lost faith in Nokia, and switched to Android, namely an HTC Desire. This is a list of posts relating to Nokia.

Migrate your Symbian S60 SMS-messages to your Android-phone

A couple of days ago I finally received my brand new HTC Desire (featuring a SLCD-screen instead of the OLED and Android 2.2) that I ordered ages ago. Thus I soon will start posting Android stuff here, and as soon as I finish my masters thesis I'll start writing software for Android too (and posting about it here).

One of the first things I decided to do was import SMS from my old Nokia N95-8GB. No need to sync contacts since I decided to do that manually and get rid of a lot of old crap at the same time.Read more »»

New N80 v 5.0719.0.2 firmware out

Nokia has released a new firmware for N80(ie) with version number v 5.0719.0.2. It's available via NSU but not FOTA. I've just installed it, so the only change noticed yet is that Y-Browser no longer works. The phone give a security error message when you try to start the app. I'll post more after more testing.

Syncml Push Messages

I've finally had time to sit down and do some research on syncml push notification. Basically what I've done is made a perl script that kicks in when funambols log is changed. It then checks if the log any changes have occurred what device initiated the changes. If it decides that these are changes that the my cell phone needs to know about, it sends a push message to my phone telling it to update, and my phone automatically updates.Read more »»

13 "must have" application for your cell phone

ScreenshotI have written a review of each of the 13 most important and most used add-on applications on my N80. A lot of the applications are "must have", others depend upon how you use your phone. Most of the software is actually freeware, but some of it is payware (and their worth it). Anyhow, this is just my idea of what I absolutely have to have on my phone. Please feel free to give me feedback, using the link at the bottom of the article.Read more »»

Barcode reader test: QuickMark

QuickMark screenshotQuickMark is a barcode reader for mobile phones developed mainly for the Asian market, but it is also available in English. At first glance QuickMark seems to be a great barcode reader. Quickmarks own encoding tool works very nice. The QuickMark doesn't scan quite as fast as the best barcode readers tested, and it requires a little more steady hand to use. The rest of the program however is better in use than other barcode readers (including the test winner Kaywa).Read more »»
